Jayesh Rane: Everyone believes that we can turn the season around

ATK will aim to leave behind a disappointing Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 season where they failed to defend the title and finished ninth in the table when they meet Chennai City FC in the last qualifier of the Hero Super Cup on Friday. As the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar gets ready to host an east-meets-south encounter, ATK will be hoping to show glimpses of their past brilliance and enter the main tournament. Prior to the crunch fixture, ATK’s 25-year-old winger Jayesh Rane spoke to supercup.in regarding the match and more. Here are the excerpts.

Your thoughts on the Cup?

It’s a new tournament. It’s been a disappointing season so far. There’s no point in regretting and thinking about it. That’s not changing anything for us. We should just look forward to this Super Cup and try to give our best.

Has the team prepared differently for the Cup?

I don’t think so. Every team should be looked as the same. If you underestimate a team or be scared of a team, you’re gone. The training is the same and the routine is the same, just the mentality is to win.

You finished Hero ISL with a win, so will this Cup see ATK’s resurgence?

I think this can be that. A tournament where we change the season around for us. It’s not just me. Everyone in the side, the manager, the players, the staff, everyone believes that we can turn it around. We are confident. We want our fans to back us.

Any message for the fans?

Keep backing us. If you’re behind us, we’ll do well and we can make you proud.
