Hitesh Sharma: Was important for ATK to get the result

ATK did not let their poor outing in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 pull their confidence down as they secured a thumping 4-1 victory over Chennai City FC in the last qualifier of Hero Super Cup at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Friday. ATK opened their scoring through 20-year-old Hitesh Sharma’s screamer before slotting home three more to confirm a pre-quarter final clash with FC Goa. After the conclusion of the match, supercup.in spoke with goalscorer Sharma to find out his views on the match. Here are the excerpts.

Your thoughts on the game?

It’s a good result. It has come at the right time too, given how we did in Hero ISL this season. It was important for us to get a result here. Hopefully, we can continue this run.

How’s the team’s morale at the moment?

Robbie (Keane) is very good. He’s helping us as a player and as a coach. The morale is good. There are no negative thoughts in the team, but we need to keep winning.

Take us through your goal.

SHOOT! That’s all I thought as the ball came rolling. I didn’t give it a second thought and went with the motion. Thankfully, I could find the target.

How will you evaluate your progress this season?

I am happy with the way I played this season. But consistency is the key. I want to continue doing this in the next season as well. I play just behind the striker and with a striker like Robbie in the side, there’s a lot to learn. That’s my goal.
